New rates for the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and the National Living Wage (NLW) took effect from 1 April. The NMW rose from £8.20 to £8.36, while the NLW increased from £8.72 to £8.91. The NLW now applies to 23- and 24-year-olds for the first time, not just those aged 25 and over.
